THE BODY IMAGE STORY

Does this sound familiar?

"I get knots in my stomach when I have to try clothes on at the mall."

"I avoid certain clothes in my closet 'cause they make me feel worse about myself."

"I've declined invitations and avoided special occasions because I was too self-conscious about how I look."

"I hate having my picture taken and have many tricks for 'hiding' in the photo."

"I see people all around and online who have amazing bodies and I don't know why I can't seem to get it together."

"I do little things to push my partner away because I don't like to see me naked so why would anyone else?"

I don't know any woman who hasn't had these thoughts at one point or another.

An ugly truth

According to Dove, 85% of women and almost as many young girls have opted out of life events because they didn't think they looked good enough.

Reread that... women and girls are literally opting out of their own lives because they think they have to look a certain way before they can participate in it.

the hope

When women and girls are taught to have a positive body image, they are able to believe they are beautiful even if they don't see themselves represented in social media.

More importantly, they feel less pressure to 'become beautiful', because they value themselves outside of how their body looks.

WHAT IF...

women practiced this to model it for the next generation

According to Dr. Lindsay Kite of Beauty Redfined, "positive body image isn't believing your body looks good, it's believing your body IS good regardless of how it looks."
